Perchik and Hodel from Fiddler on the Roof!

I always had a crush on Perchik growing up bc he is… OG Jewish Socialist Daddy, one of the only ones I saw portrayed in media before I had the verbiage for it.

He comes into town being called a radical for going to college and suggesting girls should also be allowed to learn Torah (he then teaches Tevye’s girls that the Torah tells us to “never trust your employer”). He really stirs up some shit when he states his beliefs that men and women should be allowed to dance with each other at a wedding and gets everyone to join in. He eventually asks Hodel to marry him by saying “I, I have a political question”..overriding the tradition of the father being in charge of choosing and approving his daughters’ husband.

His storyline ends when he gets arrested by czarist police and exiled to Siberia for advocating for the revolution in Kiev. Hodel leaves home to be with him in Siberia and to eventually marry him.
